Here's a little Gematria calculator that could come in handy if you need to derive the mystical value of specific words -- say if you were working toward a million pound puzzle prize or something.
Gematria is the art or science of valuing words with numbers. Two words that have the same value (or values that are only one apart, if the rule of colel is used) are said to represent equivalent ideas or concepts.
Because the Maranatha puzzle is written in English, this calculator uses the a few popular English Gematria schemes.
The first scheme, called Standard, gives each letter of the alphabet its index value. So A = 1, B = 2, and so on, down to Z = 26.
The second scheme, called Simple Gematria, adjusts the standard scheme for older English text, which did not use the letters J or U. In Simple Gematria each letter gets its index value, but I and J are both equal to 9, U and V are both equal to 20, and it ends with Z = 24.
The third scheme is called Agrippa Gematria. It uses the values proposed by Henry Cornelius Agrippa in his Books of Occult Philosophy, Book II, Chapter 20. Because there is some confusion about which letters to use for the last four values, I have used the letters specified by Peter Bull on the site masoncode.com. Here are the values for Agrippa Gematria:

The calculator lets you do the following:
- Enter the word or phrase and then click the Calculate button (or hit the Enter key). The word and its values will be added to the list.
- Click on a column header to sort the list by that column. This is useful if you want to see which words have similar values in a particular scheme.
- Press the Toggle Data button to see a comma-separated list of all the words and their values, which you can copy and paste elsewhere.
By the way, your current list will not be saved if you click away from this page, so be careful.
