If you're like me, you looked through the Flash help manuals a few times when you first got Flash MX 2004 and then moved on to the real work of building cool stuff.
However Macromedia upgraded a lot of the help content for the 7.2 release. For example, the Using ActionScript manual now includes a very strong Best Practices chapter that's worth a look. It covers a lot of ground and offers numerous hints and tips. Jen de Haan wrote and compiled most of the content and did a very thorough job.
Anyone who works on Flash projects and ActionScript code in a team environment should get a lot out of this chapter. It's called "Using Best Practices" inside the Using ActionScript book. You can find it in your Flash help, or on LiveDocs.
Here's a list of the chapter topics:
- Working with FLA files
- General coding conventions
- ActionScript coding standards
- Using classes and ActionScript 2.0
- Behaviors conventions
- Screens conventions
- Video conventions
- Performance and Flash Player
- Guidelines for Flash applications
- Projects and version control guidelines
- Guidelines for accessibility in Flash
- Advertising with Flash
